A storyboard is a 'graphic representation of how your video will unfold, shot by shot.' they're made up of a number of squares with illustrations or pictures representing each shot, with notes about what's going on in the scene and sometimes what's being said in the script during that shot.
It’s important to make a story board while planning to film as it’s the best way to share your vision. Sharing your vision through pictures is easier for people to understand than if they are trying to verbally explain it.
It also helps make production much easier, this is because you will be setting up a plan for production, including all the shots you'll need, the order that they'll be laid out, and how the visuals will interact with the script. a storyboard is the starting point and guide for when you're filming as you won’t forget to film any scenes, and will know exactly what’s going on.
Saving time is another benefit of storyboards.

GOOD EXAMPLE
This is a good example of a storyboard as it is laid out neatly, making the different shots and angles easier to distinguish from the description. The pictures are also more detailed and show more of what is supposed to be on film which makes it easier for the director to recreate the images.
BAD EXAMPLE
This is a bad storyboard as the descriptions are hard to read and it is difficult to tell what the different angles and shots are supposed to be. There is also no colour on the pictures which makes it boring to look at.
our story board
This is our original storyboard idea of with brief shots of what you would see in our trailer. We didn't write the dialogue on the story board apart form the last shot because the dialogue is the main focus but however we wrote what we wanted in the shots to give us a basic idea of what was going to be included. A storyboard is necessary while creating a trailer because it gives a basic view of what it would look like and we can always keep track of what shots we've filmed.
